Fluid Power Research Update: Variable AC Hydraulic Pump/Motor Webcast

We’ve written before about the fluid power research projects coming out of the Center for Compact and Efficient Fluid Power. Ten new research projects have recently been selected for funding. One such project is the Variable AC Hydraulic Pump/Motor project, which was presented by Mengtang Li, a student at Vanderbilt University, and Ryan Foss, a student at the University of Minnesota, on the February 22 CCEFP Webcast.

Project summary: Hydraulic systems today can best be classified as DC, or direct flow, hydraulics. This project will investigate the modeling, design, and development of AC hydraulic systems. This project will build upon the existing CCEFP variable linkage piston pump that is both compact and efficient even under low displacement operating conditions. It will also greatly expand the existing body of knowledge for applying existing variable displacement pumps to alternating flow AC hydraulic circuits, including multi-actuator systems.
